Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ufak tefek sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine rabıtlanmasıyla oluşan kesik polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lafıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok nüshada polipeptit madun birimi çitndırır). Omurga nüans peptitlerin kesik, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino asit, özge amino asite sakır sakır, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle rabıtlanır. Polipeptid mimarisına acımasızlan amino asitlerin her biri mimariya peptid rabıtlarıyla rabıtlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir kez çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Ortalama bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, kestirmece 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine acımasızlan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, muaf amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin özge ucundaki muaf α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
